Rine Boyer’s figures from everyday life explore how we see one another. Painting on canvas, metal, and wood she uses acrylic paint and ink to create two and three-dimensional painted drawings. Her figurative works reference the repeating pattern in pointillism, with flatness and the bright colors of current trends. The layer of small iconic shapes over the surface of her portraits create her unique style and link the figures to the underlying themes of culture, personality, and group dynamics. She is represented by Bluerider Art Gallery in Taipei, Elephant Room Gallery in Chicago, and works with Mayson Gallery in New York City and Graphite Gallery in New Orleans.

The Gather Series depicts groups of people spending time together in public spaces. The works range from a single portrait to groups of ten with a focus on leisure and entertainment. Boyer creates similarity in the group by using the same set of colors throughout the scene so that there is little difference in clothing and skin color between figures.

On top of the portraits Rine adds a second layer of small iconic shapes to reflect the individual’s personality and show how they fit into the group dynamic. Together the similar colors and theme for the shapes throughout a work emphasize the importance of being together.
